“I cannot speak to the people. But they want to take my rights away. I represent the United States of America. I am a symbol of freedom and peace. I won’t be safe anymore. Many other species won’t be either. I am the pride of America.”
They want to rollback the endangered species act. The EPA was one of the proudest and most successful stories for the environment and the government. And now they want to take it away. It has been nearly 100% successful in saving species such as the Bald Eagle. They are saying that it’s an ineffective land-grab and it is a myth. Meanwhile, since 1973 when it was enacted, there were only 400 pairs of Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states. Now there are over 7,000. The gray wolf for another example, was down to 200. Now they are 3,500.
You have to question their motive here. Why would they want to suppress progress such as these? What does that say about us as people? Our leaders? We have a responsibility to take care of these creatures, to keep them safe. We need to respect them, set a good example for our children. Compassion & understanding for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character. They are all vulnerable to us, we hold the sword. Stand up for them, do right by them.
I will leave you with this quote by Paul McCartney:
“You can judge a true man’s character by the way he treats his fellow animals.”
I wish people cared and loved the Earth as much as they claim they love the One who created it. 🌎
